I know that tariffs and the overall volatility of our current political climate aren’t helping, but these prices are out of control. You can currently get a Steam Deck, which is basically a mini computer, for $399. You’d have to spend $100 more just to get the Switch 2 with one game. I haven’t even mentioned that the new Mario Kart World is $80 for the digital version and $90 for the physical one (via Forbes).
Yes, the PlayStation 5 Pro is currently $699.99, and $449.99 for the Switch 2 seems more reasonable by comparison but Sony is also out of their minds pricing the PS5 Pro like that. It makes me think Nintendo has taken inspiration from Sony when setting the Switch 2’s price point.
With Nintendo pricing one of their most popular first party games at $79.99, the meme about Grand Theft Auto 6 costing over $100+ might actually come true. I’m sure EA is also salivating at the chance to charge more than $59.99 for base versions of their popular titles as well. Games like Madden are already in the $69.99 range. I really hope gaming isn’t heading for a massive price jump. Looks like we’ll have to eat ice soup for every meal if we want to play the latest games lol.
